Virginia DMV Approved Driver Improvement
VIRGINIA DRIVER IMPROVEMENT
Select a course from the VA DMV Course Provider list.
Choose the Virginia course and proceed as directed.
Once you have completed the course you will need to visit a testing facility to have your ID verified. You will then be logged onto a computer for the final quiz.
You will receive your Certificate of Completion in the mail after you have passed the final test. You will need to present or mail this original certificate to your court of jurisdiction prior to your due date.

Driving University: Course fee $49.95 USPS first class mailing of your certificate is FREE (FedEx overnight delivery is available for an additional fee). The test centers include a wide variety of public libraries.

Go To Traffic School: Course fee is $28.99 USPS first class mailing of your certificate is $4.00 with FedEx overnight delivery available if you're in a hurry. The test centers are a mix of libraries and UPS stores. Testing fees will apply at many of these locations. (This course is a good choice for non-Virginia driver's license holders as the test center requirement does not apply, you may take the final quiz from your home computer).

All online courses are available 24/7 and you can take the course of your choice at your leisure--you do not have to finish the entire course in one sitting. After you complete the course you will need to take a final quiz at a nearby test center site. (This does not apply to non-VA driver's license holders).
Per VA Law, you must be 20 or older to take the course online.
Online driver improvement courses are not approved for CDL (commercial driver's license) violations.
Non-Virginia residents/non VA driver's license holders ticketed in VA: After you have completed the online course of your choice simply call the toll free number provided on the course provider website. You will be given an access code which allows you to take the test from your home computer. You do not have to take the test at a testing center.
Your certificate will display a code explaining the reason why you are taking a driving improvement course. These codes, issued by the VA Department of Motor Vehicles, are as follows:
NCT: This code indicates you have taken the course for court referred/ticket dismissal or ticket reduction purposes.
DMV: This code means that you have been ordered by the DMV to take a driving improvement course.
VOL: This is a volunteer participant code. Volunteers may receive up to five positive driving points once every two years.
INS: Some insurance companies will provide you with a discount if you take a driving improvement course.
