One of the most important details of your certificate will be a code explaining the reason why you are taking a driving improvement course. These codes, issued by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles,
are as follows:
NCT: This codes indicate you have taken the course for court referred/ticket dismissal or ticket reduction purposes.
Please choose the court referred option if you are taking the class for ticket dismissal
purposes as many courts will NOT accept a certificate with the incorrect code.
DMV: This code means you have been ordered by the DMV to take a
driving improvement course. You must choose the DMV referred option if you have
received notice from the DMV that you need to complete a driving improvement course.
VOL: This is a volunteer participant code. Volunteers are eligible
to receive up to five positive driving points once every two years.
INS: Some insurance companies will provide you with a discount
if you take a driving improvement course
