All online courses are available 24/7 and you can take the course of your choice at your leisure--you do not have to finish the entire course in one sitting. After you complete the course you will need to take a final quiz at a nearby test center site. (This does not apply to non-VA driver's license holders).
Per VA Law, you must be 20 or older to take the course online.
Online driver improvement courses are not approved for CDL (commercial driver's license) violations.
Non-Virginia residents/non VA driver's license holders ticketed in VA: After you have completed the online course of your choice simply call the toll free number provided on the course provider website. You will be given an access code which allows you to take the test from your home computer. You do not have to take the test at a testing center.
Your certificate will display a code explaining the reason why you are taking a driving improvement course. These codes, issued by the VA Department of Motor Vehicles, are as follows:
NCT: This code indicates you have taken the course for court referred/ticket dismissal or ticket reduction purposes.
DMV: This code means that you have been ordered by the DMV to take a driving improvement course.
VOL: This is a volunteer participant code. Volunteers may receive up to five positive driving points once every two years.
INS: Some insurance companies will provide you with a discount if you take a driving improvement course.
